Star Wars: The Black Series | Admiral Holdo

The Last Jedi’s Resistance leader is an excellent addition to Hasbro’s Black Series.

Admiral Holdo is a controversial character among the Star Wars fan base. There are those who love her, as one of the most interesting and most important characters introduced in Episode VIII. Then there are those who are wrong.

Thankfully, Hasbro has decided to give her the toy treatment, as the one Last Jedi character in the mix of the most recent wave of 6″ Black Series figures, and the result is a subtly great action figure. The portrait of Laura Dern is excellent, and her color pallet– a soft purple from the rings of her hair to her flowing gown– make her stand out among other Black Series figures.

Holdo features a great range of motion, benefited by the thin cloth of her gown… even if this character doesn’t necessarily need this level of articulation, it’s still nice to have to open up as many pose options as possible (with or without her blaster, a design very reminiscent of her friend Leia’s).

I’ve made no secret my general distaste for too many soft goods on Black Series figures, but Holdo’s dress actually works quite nicely. It looks screen accurate, and its smooth simplicity works will integrated with the more detailed sleeves, collar, and scarf, which are all sculpted in plastic.

I’m very glad to have this iconic character in Hasbro’s toy line. Some people are predicting Holdo may pegwarm, a victim of the protests against the movie she appears in. I don’t think it will happen, because this jilted part of the fanbase is quite loud, but I believe they actually only represent a very small percentage of fans and collectors. Time will tell, but for those who are excited to add Holdo to their shelf, I’m glad to say she does not disappoint.
