Toy Fair 2015: Gund

Gund Toy Fair 2015 BannerGund digs deeper into pop culture.

This year Gund seemed to get licenses that weren’t the norm.

The biggest attraction was the adding of Grumpy Cat. For those who don’t know, Grumpy Cat has become an internet sensation due to various memes on the internet. Personally I don’t get it, but a lot of people like it. Because of the popularity, Gund is making Grumpy Cat plush figures, as well as wearables likes scarfs and hats.

Gund has also started to venture into the world of Anime. First up is from My Neighbor Totoro. The line includes the character of Totoro in various sizes. Later this year, Gund will be putting out Jiji from Kik’s Delivery Service. Hopefully this will lead to more Anime properties.

Uglydoll is still going strong. On the success of the DC Super-Heroes license, they are adding Uglydolls based on Green Lantern, The Flash, and The Joker. As well as Uglydolls based on the members of the band Kiss. And new to Uglydolls is classic Star Trek. Who wouldn’t want an Uglydoll that also looks like Mr. Spock.

Since Uglydoll got the licenses to DC Comics and Kiss, Gund is now able to “piggyback” those character onto their stand line of plush animals. Plus a line of Kiss hats and blankets for babies.

Gund definitely had a strong showing at Toy Fair this year, and I can not wait for these products to hit the shelves.
