Let’s address the Ephont Man in the room right up front– Hasbro (like every other toymaker) did not have any Rogue One products on display at Toy Fair. While those toys and the characters on which they’re based remain dormant in Lucasfilm’s pocket, Hasbro shined a light on the middle of 2016, and what we can expect to see from The Black Series, the 3.75″ toy line, and more.
The Force Awakens collection is winding down with all the confidence such a financial success deserves, although we will see at least a few more releases in the sub-line, including a four-pack dubbed “Takodana Encounter,” featuring our heroes Rey, Finn, BB-8, and the first, ever Maz Kanata figure, along with her lightsaber in a box accessory. The main focus of the 3.75″ line immediately after The Force Awakens’ reign will be a return to Rebels. The animated series-inspired figures will include teenage Leia, Kanan in Stormtrooper disguise, the eagerly anticipated Seventh Sister, Season 2 Sabine with removable helmet, and– the biggest surprise of the lineup– Darth Maul, who will apparently make his return in the current season of Rebels.
Hasbro’s Black Series was hugely successful in 2015, in both 6″ and 3.75″ formats, and both lines will continue. While no new 3.75″ additions were announced, the Star Wars team assured us multiple times that the Wal-Mart exclusive collection will continue. And we’ll be seeing a more diverse mix of characters in the 6″ Black Series until Rogue One takes over the format in the Fall. In addition to Kanan Jarrus and Ahsoka Tano in the latest series, Sabine Wren will join the line this Spring, along with Fan Poll co-winner Darth Revan from Knights of the Old Republic. Both figures looked amazing; Revan wields a pair of lightsabers and features one of the more intricate and layered cloth and plastic mixed media we’ve seen thus far in the toy series, while Sabine’s “heavy as hell” paint deco sports loads of custom graffiti paint spatter, applied toothbrush, of all things.
The Black Series will also reach back to the Original trilogy to deliver 6″ figures based on episode IV Princess Leia, in her classic white gown, and Episode V’s Snowtrooper and AT-AT Pilot, as well. C3PO with his red arm was also shown, although the Episode VII General Leia and Maz Kanata teased on Hasbro Pulse months ago were nowhere to be found.
Hasbro’s team also confirmed we will see more Star Wars figures later this year prior to the release of the Rogue One collection, although they left out any and all details beyond that… save one. This year’s San Diego Comic Con exclusive will be a preview item based on Rogue One, just like 2015’s First Order Stormtrooper. What will this year’s exclusive be? The only hint we’ve been told so far is that it will be a 6″ Black Series figure. Feel free to place your best guesses below, as you peruse our Hasbro Star Wars Toy Fair photo gallery.
