Toy Fair 2017: In The Diamond Select Toys Booth

By kastor417 - February 24, 2017

For me the highlight of Toy Fair was Diamond Select Toys booth. Whenever minimates are involved I am happy but seeing the new Kingdom hearts lines just made my weekend.

The booth had a big showing for the Nightmare Before Christmas and Marvel, while the rest of the booth was broken up in to smaller properties.

Marvel will see the release of statues based on the Netflix heroes, which complement the other comic statues on the way. The PVC statue line is some of the best sculpting on the market today for a reasonable price. It allows collectors to get good quality statues at lower prices. In the past I would have worried about the quality of these, but DST have proves to be some of the best product on the market today. The Marvel Minimates also showed off some new characters from the upcoming Guardians and Spider-man films as ell as the first look at the Iron Fist 4 pack. And rounding out the Marvel section is the continuation of the Marvel Select line mixing Netflix films, Marvel Movies, and comic lines.

There was also the announcement that the Ghostbusters Select build a diorama will continue. Vigo will be part of it the line, and will continue the same format as the roof diorama, only this time it will be the front of the fire house. There is also more Muppets Select coming this year, with a lost of extra parts to really create a scene for all the famous Muppets. This line continues to impress, and knowing that the band will be complete is great news for collectors. The Batman Animated and Batman 66′ bust and statue lines will also continue, delivering even more heroes an villains to fill your shelves.

We also saw full line of Pulp Fiction figures, and all new Pirates of the Caribbean figures, but photos were not allowed until the figures go through final approval. The PotC figures will come in all sizes, on display was a bust, a statue, and a Select size figure of Captain Jack as well as 5 minimates based on the new movie.

The Nick-toons Ninja Turtles maybe over but the classic cartoon Minimates are the the way. Two waves were shown at in the booth, and round out the core cast. They are waiting final approval, but should be out by the end of the year.

The highlight for me, and the highlight of the whole show, were the prototypes of the new Kingdom Hearts lines. The Kingdom Hearts Select lineup showed off both Disney characters and game created chracters. The figures are in scale with the other Select lines and were just stunning in person.

  • Sora
  • Axel
  • Roxas
  • Heartless
  • Nobody
  • Creeper Plant
  • Mickey
  • Maleficent
  • Jafar shown with Apu and Iago

The minimates were also on display with the trio of Donald, Sora, and Goofy who all looked perfect in Minimate form. Final Fantasy Auron, with a Nobody and Demyx, and rounding out the set Tron and Sark.

I can’t wait to get both scales of Kingdom Heart figures. This will be the first time that both Disney characters and human chracters will be in the same lines and in the same scales. Fans of the game have had to track down figures form different lines to cobble together a decent KH display, but now DST is giving us everything we need.
