Toy Fair 2017: ReAction Gets ‘ReAnimated’ With Super7

By bill - February 20, 2017

From Aliens to Hellboy, Shogun to MUSCLE, Super7’s Toy Fair display was loaded with some of the coolest retro action figure concepts of all time.

Junior will be diving deep into Super7’s Masters of the Universe products on tap for 2017, but as far as I’m concerned, the highlight of their awesome Toy Fair booth was the new retro toys including their latest Kenner-inspired ReAction figures, more MUSCLE minifigures, and some all new surprises.

The Alien retro line launched the ReAction brand, and helped to catapult Super7 to a new level in the pop culture universe, and they’re coming back for a third series which will round out the crew of the Nostromo with Parker, Lambert, Brett, and Jonesy… as well as screen accurate colorways for Ripley and Dallas, and a new headless Ash.  In addition, we’re going to see Warriors from Aliens in both 3.75″ and 18″ scale, to match the vintage Kenner Alien.  Sticking with their designer toy roots, Super7 will also release a set of highly stylized alternate colorways of their Big Chap Alien, which will be offered in blind boxes.

But ReAction is reaching way beyond the Alien universe.  The 2017 lineup will feature a third wave of ReAction Masters of the Universe– with Battle Armor He-Man, Battle Armor Skeletor, Kobra Khan, Teela, Stratos and Zodac– as well as the previously revealed Hellboy series, and new colorways for Super7’s original creations The Worst (who have landed their own TV show coming later this year).

All new ReAction lines announced at Toy Fair include Robotech, Shogun, Planet of the Apes, Toxic Avenger, and– coolest of all– a figure based on Jack Kirby and Barry Geller’s psychedelic would-have-been masterpiece Lord of Light!  In a way, Lord of Light may very well be the most meta entry yet in the realm of theoretical toymaking… while Alien was a Kenner toy line that never saw the light of day, Lord of Light is a toy based on a MOVIE that never saw release (although it did play a major role in the events depicted in the movie Argo).

Super7 also hit big with the MOTUSCLE minifigures, a mashup of He-Man’s most iconic characters in the fleshy pink 1.75″ scale of the vintage MUSCLE toys.  The new MUSCLE lineup will feature two waves of Alien themed figures, as well as Robotech, The Worst, Street Fighter 2, and an elaborate set of Mega Man minis featuring Mega Man, Dr. Light, Dr. Wily, Cut Man, Bomb Man, Ice Man, Elec Man, Fire Man, Guts Man, Sniper Joe, Yellow Devil, and Metall.

An entirely new avenue for the ReAction concept is ReAnimated, a line that will reimagine characters from the Aliens, Predator, and Planet of the Apes franchises in a Bruce Timm-esque animated style.  The designs are slick and streamlined, and the figures will stand at a 4.75″ scale… the perfect size to fit in with the long-running DC Animated toy lines by Kenner, Hasbro, and Mattel.

You can see photos of Super7’s retro products on display at Toy fair below, along with a quick look at the upcoming vintage, Classics, and Power Con exclusive assortments of Masters of the Universe.  And check back soon for more on the MOTU lines coming later this week!
