Toy Fair 2020: Kotobukiya

By bill - March 2, 2020

You can always count on Kotobukiya to put on a good show at Toy Fair, and 2020 was no exception. They showcased a great range of product, including the stunning new Women of Marvel Art FX+ series, some great new Star Wars statues, and more.

The Art FX Batman Who Laughs statue may have been the highlight of Kotobukiya’s new DC offerings, as perhaps the best sculpt I’ve seen of this newly beloved character. He was joined by news that Thomas Wayne from Batman: The Button will be joining the collection, as well. The new Poison Ivy Bishoujo, who will be shipping very soon, was also shown, and promises to be even better than the original release.

I was blown away by the Star Wars Art FX Artist Series Rey and Kylo Ren. These stylized statues depict the hero and villain of the New Trilogy in a striking and dramatic way that would make the perfect Force Dyad on any shelf. My Reylos, holla at me if you agree!

The GI Joe Bishoujo line will continue in 2020, with the release of Lady Jaye as well as several redecos of Scarlett and Baroness, each of which are great nods to hard to find variants of the original action figures. With luck, the GI Joe line will continue, in both Bishoujo form and other Kotobukiya lines. The other big focus for Bishoujo on display this year was a return to horror, with two statues based on Texas Chainsaw Massacre, as well as an awesome female Beetlejuice sculpt. Each piece does the impossible by capturing the essence of the monstrous characters they pay tribute to, while maintaining the “pretty girl” aesthetic.
