TPB Pick of the Week: Age of Ultron

age of Ultron1Humanity’s time is over. Submit or perish, because the Age of Ultron has arrived!

The artificial intelligence known as Ultron has fought for years to eradicate mankind, and it has all but succeeded. The few remaining heroes are battered, broken, almost beaten and left considering desperate measures – some more desperate than others. When Wolverine breaks ranks and pursues his own plan to defeat Ultron, will his drastic action cause more problems than it solves? Wolverine’s plan is a BIG spoiler for the story so I will leave it out.

UltronWith the hype around the new movie, I thought a dive into the section of the Marvel comic world was appropriate. This TPB features the comic arc Age of Ultron issues 1-10  and Avengers 12.1 and is written by comic juggernaut Brian Michael Bendis, and illustrated by Bryan Hitch, Brandon Peterson, and Carlos Pacheco. Bendis takes us for a ride (literally) as this story might as well been called “Grand Theft Auto Wolverine” as Logan steals Lola and for some reason this book becomes all about him.

Personally I felt this story was extremely confusing and I usually like Bendis’s work. It was all over the place and just sloppy for my taste.  The art on the book was fantastic and definitely worth looking at. I really hope this is NOT what we will get in the new movie. I know with Wolverine being a FOX property that the story will not be 100% accurate to the movie and I will be OK with that as long as there is no time travel! This story gets a 6.5/10 on the JQ scale!
