How To Train Your Dragon 2 Teaser Is Incredible

The beautiful first teaser for Dreamworks’ upcoming sequel does its job admirably.

I love How To Train Your Dragon— it’s one of those movies with an easy charm, smart storytelling and excellent character design, that somehow improves more each time you watch it.  I liked it so much, in fact, that it’s one of the few Dreamworks properties that I’m legitimately excited to see more of.  Which is good, because the second installment is coming to theaters in 2014… and the new teaser trailer looks fantastic.

As we saw with Iron-Man Three during the Super Bowl, sometimes the most effective kind of teaser is one that simply shows a snippet of the story, and that’s what we get in this under two minute clip that made me feel right at home back in this fantastic world of vikings and their giant winged allies.  It’s thrilling and kinetic, and also really quite pretty to look at– the expansive skies and waters are perfectly rendered, and we get just a hint of some cool looking creatures while the focus stays on Toothless and a surprisingly badass looking Hiccup testing their latest aerial stunt.

I was sold anyway, but this great teaser really makes me fell like less of an idiot for being this stoked for a sequel to a kids movie.
