TV Korner: Once Upon A Time 03.14- “The Tower”

By staff-writers - April 1, 2014

Once upon a time 314The secret to not being afraid is to understand what scares you. This week our heroes are forced to face their fears and take action to overcome them- before the Wicked Witch gains the advantage.

Months ago in the Enchanted Forest, Prince Charming discovers that Snow is pregnant- but not before an anxiety filled dream.  This awful dream brings up memories of his biggest fear: the fear of being a bad father. His fear is so strong that he decides to go on a hunt to find night root. This night root, Robin Hood explains, can cure anyone of his or her fears.

On his search, Prince Charming comes across a high tower- Rapunzel’s tower. But it is not an evil witch or sorcerer that keeps Rapunzel locked in the tower. Rapunzel explains that she was running, searching, for a way to escape her destiny. She decided to use the night root when a black-hooded creature trapped her in this tower. As if on cue, the creature appears moving sporadically up the tower. The Prince, being true to character, tries to protect Rapunzel only to realize, the creature is not evil at all. It is Rapunzel’s own fears manifested in human form- only Rapunzel can defeat her fears.

It seems Wicked Witch is not a stranger to using fear to manipulate those around her to get what she wants and is determined to use the night root to steal David’s courage from him.  When he finally admits his fears of failing as a father, the creature stops the attack and disappears taking David’s sword with him in cloud of green.

But more has been revealed- Regina, Hook, and Emma find David in the woods right after he looses his sword. Regina explains that the sword stands for his courage and is now a weapon in the Wicked Witch’s hands. As they discuss what this might mean, they enter the farm’s storm cellar to discover a spindle with gold strewn around. Dark magic is all around the cellar, but there is no sign of Rumple or the Wicked Witch- but the crew can only suspect that Rumple is alive.

The Wicked Witch has her courage- but where will she find brains and a heart? Who is her next target? Why is she obsessed with Mary Margret’s baby? Hopefully all will be revealed in the next episodes.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond
