Valiant Entertainment Leads 2016 Harvey Awards as Year’s Most Nominated Publisher-A Total of 50 Nominations for Series Including BLOODSHOT REBORN, DIVINITY, NINJAK, THE VALIANT, and Many More!
The nominations are in for the 2016 Harvey Awards…and, for the second year running, Valiant is leading the ballot as the most nominated publisher in the industry today!
With 50 nominations spanning nearly every eligible category for the 2016 Harvey Awards, Valiant is honored to congratulate its creators and staff on Valiant’s status as the single most nominated comic book publisher of the year! Valiant’s BLOODSHOT REBORN – the ongoing monthly series by Jeff Lemire, Mico Suayan, and David Baron – also reigns as the year’s single most nominated title with eight nominations, including “Best Writer,” “Best Artist,” “Best New Series,” “Best Continuing or Limited Series,” “Best Single Issue,” and more.
Further Valiant nominations also include some of the past year’s most acclaimed ongoing monthly titles, limited series, and standalone events, including DIVINITY by Matt Kindt, Trevor Hairsine, Ryan Winn and David Baron; NINJAK by Matt Kindt, Clay Mann, Butch Guice, Seth Mann, and Ulises Arreola; THE VALIANT by Jeff Lemire & Matt Kindt, Paolo Rivera, and Joe Rivera; BOOK OF DEATH by Robert Venditti, Robert Gill, Doug Braithwaite, David Baron, and Brian Reber; and IVAR, TIMEWALKER by Fred Van Lente, Clayton Henry, and Brian Reber; as well as select backlist releases, such as the ARCHER & ARMSTRONG: THE COMPLETE CLASSIC OMNIBUS oversized hardcover and QUANTUM AND WOODY BY PRIEST & BRIGHT VOL. 1: KLANG trade paperback collection.
This is the second year in a row that Valiant has led the Harvey Award nominations. In 2015, the publisher led the pack with 20 nominations for series including ARCHER & ARMSTRONG, ARMOR HUNTERS, THE DEATH-DEFYING DR. MIRAGE, RAI, and more. In 2014, Valiant also posted a total of 16 nominations, including eight for that year’s most nominated series, QUANTUM AND WOODY by James Asmus, Tom Fowler, and Jordie Bellaire.
Since the launch of Valiant Entertainment in 2012, Valiant has returned to the fore as one of the most critically acclaimed publishers in the comics today. Just seven months after its initial launch, the company received a highly coveted Diamond Gem Award for Publisher of the Year – the fastest any publisher in the history of comics has done so before or since. In the years since, Valiant has continued to accrue awards, nominations, and critical accolades from all corners, and today, its comics consistently rate among the best reviewed anywhere in the industry.
“The Harvey Awards are one of the industry’s highest honors, and Valiant is humbled to be recognized for outstanding performance in such a grand fashion by a body of our peers,” said Valiant Publisher Fred Pierce. “We owe a heartfelt congratulations to our incredibly gifted and diligently hardworking creators – the writers, pencilers, inkers, colorists, letterers, and designers – that have worked steadfastly to make Valiant’s comics some of the most acclaimed in the industry today. This is a testament to their dedication, their vision, and, above all, their extraordinary talent.
Named in honor of the late Harvey Kurtzman, one of the industry’s most innovative talents, the Harvey Awards recognize outstanding work in comics and sequential art. They will be presented September 3rd, 2016 in Baltimore, MD, in conjunction with the Baltimore Comic-Con.
Nominations for the Harvey Awards are selected exclusively by creators – those who write, draw, ink, letter, color, design, edit, or are otherwise involved in a creative capacity in the comics field. They are the only industry awards both nominated and selected by the full body of comic book professionals.
