There was a time when Super7 was widely known as the Masters of the Universe licensor plus some niche ReAction figures. My, what a few years can bring.
Super7 certainly had the most surprising showing at New York Toy Fair 2019. Ren & Stimpy, Voltron, Beavis & Butthead, Conan, the Toxic Crusader, Classic MLB players and mascots, and so much more.
Under Super7, Masters of the Universe has done the impossible: we finally have action figures of Dolph Lundgren’s He-Man and Frank Langella’s Skeletor (both versions, in fact!). Rounding out the Collector’s Choice wave 3 is another Karg, this time in his movie deco with the correctly-shaped hook. Club Grayskull wave 4 was given a live early view as well. The biggest announcement, both figuratively and literally, is Snake Mountain preorders going live in May 2019. The rumored price is $600, so I’d advise to start saving now. Lastly, the vintage 5.5″ figures offerings through assortment 4 were shown off. Standouts include the first ever Shadow Weaver figure, as well as another Orko with magic effects and rolling wheels. My Classics Cringer will find a home with that new Prince Adam!
Somethings new have been added. Conan the Barbarian makes his debut utilizing the muscle-bound He-Man body as only he could. Time will tell if we see Schwarzenegger versions or the cartoon Conan the Adventurer. With a ReAction figure under their belt, it should have been obvious that Toxie would get a 7-inch action figure. He is in his Toxic Crusaders Playmates toy deco, complete with fluorescent weapons and American flag attached to Moppie (Mopey?). One hopes that his mop and slimy friend get a proper cartoon deco down the line. Ren & Stimpy are really interesting, as they are life-size and include iconic accessories and hilarious alternate face plates. Beavis & Butthead round out the noteworthy cartoon licenses. Five figures were displayed, and the sculpts are faithfully recreated.
ReAction figures expanded upon established Super7 licensed properties while adding a few others. Among those shown were The Worst, Rocky IV, Pee-Wee’s Playhouse, MLB Classic All-Stars and mascots, Alien, They Live, Transformers, He-Man, She-Ra, Teen Wolf, Iron Maiden, and many more. Multicolored Keshi toys, M.U.S.C.L.E. toys, and character tumbler glasses accompany the figures shown.
Super 7 had jumped in both feet with ReAction figures, but the adult collectible action figures now have a shot in the arm as well. Before we know it, He-Man is going to have to muscle it out with Conan, Toxie, Stimpy, and Michelangelo for action figure supremacy. They are the company that is making me most excited for San Deigo Comic Con and 2020. It’s rare when you love so much from a company like Super7, and you know that the best is yet to come. Congratulations guys, you have my paycheck!
