Another Masters of the Universe figure is sold out on Matty Collector, and after a bit of a wait he arrived at my house. Zodac took longer than the last few figures to sell out so the question is, is he a great figure? Was he worth the price? Find out inside.
While this figure is decent, it is not without its problems. The problems started before I even got the figure. When I went online to order him at 12 noon on May 15
th
I found this message on the Matty collector site.
“Hey Toy Fan,
Glad you’re here at MattyCollector.com, your source for the cool toys you love. Due to an overwhelming response, there’s a slight delay in processing your request.

This message was on a blank red screen with Matty himself staring back at me. I was worried that I was locked out of the site and I would not get my figure. The previous figures sold out so fast that if you work, it makes it almost impossible to get the figures without help. After five minutes of refreshing, I got onto the site, put Zodac in my shopping cart and hit the check out button, only to get the same red screen, and another five minutes of waiting. I got to next page in the process and started to put in all my info, and I got the red screen yet again, but now I started to worry that my order might be doubled. After ten more minutes and two more red screens I finally finished my checkout, but I did not know what I ordered. I know some people’s orders were doubled in this process, so I was worried about this process going forward with future figures. After ordering the figure it took a few hours to get my email confirmation, and another week to get a shipping notice, and another week of waiting for the UPS man to arrive with my figure. Having ordered it so early I was very disappointed in the long wait time for the figure, but it has been the norm for Matty Collector and my orders. Now on to the figure.
The best way to describe this figure is to say Skeletor got repainted with a new head and armor. When you take him out of the box you can see he is a mix of Skeletor, Beastman, and Merman. He has Beastman’s torso, Skeletor’s arms and legs, and Merman’s belt and loin cloth. Most of the other figures don’t mix and match as many parts as Zodac, but it works for him. He shows how even with all the part reuse you can still have a decent figure. The paint on these figures continues to hold up to the high standards of this line.
The chest piece is very well detailed. While it is inspired by the classic armor, you can see the new details around the waist of the armor. The back and the front also show a good amount of detail that could have been skipped, but were put in there to give the fans a better figure. The head sculpt is the best part of this figure. His helmet has a good amount of detail work, making it one of the most intricate of the line so far. The
helmet looks as if there is a head under the it and that is something that can be hard to do in a figure. He also comes with a blaster, which does remind me of the old blaster from the original figure, but is updated with some painted details.
So why does this figure disappoint? Again, I feel like the price for this figure does not match what we got. Zodac, like the Metron from the New Gods (in the DC world), is usually seen with his chair in the MOTU world. This is one character that could have benefited from being a deluxe figure, or an exclusive of some kind to give us the added chair accessory. The bottom line is he is a mix of parts with minimal new things. When Mattel gives us figures like Merman, Hordak, Man-at-Arms, and Webster it is hard to accept that a figure like Zodac is worth the same price. Nostalgia has gotten me into this line, but if I had to choose between this line and a Thundercats, Marvel, or DC line I would give it up, because the value continues to be an
issue with this line.
